My mother had a rule that every December during the week before Christmas she had a mammogram – she did this for over 30 years. In December 2000 something was wrong with her mammogram and found she had stage three Breast Cancer. She went through chemo followed by radiation but with one constant; caring for her family and bowling. She went to chemo on Mondays and Wednesdays and bowled Tuesdays and Thursdays. The doctors wondered how she had the strength but she never missed a bowling event through that journey. She succumbed to breast cancer in April of 2002. Her spirit and smile which I inherited and her love of bowling is something all her friends and family remember. So in her memory I salute Joyce Harlin Menefee as we strike out breast cancer!
